THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

It was the hottest day of the year, and I was out on the mountain bike hitting the local trails with fellow artist Rob Walsh. At the entrance to the Rifle Range, Stourport, I rode straight through a colony of white butterflies. Don't worry, none were hurt...they just flew into the air like an explosion of confetti. So I waited for them to calm down, and snuck back, leaving my camera on the ground with them. You can detect patterns in their movements if you watch the whole two minutes.

PREVIEWING NEW EDITION OF 'FUTURE-ROCKER' BLOG

As you can see, I'm really going to town on my revival of the 1970's French fantasy comic style. It was such a beautiful and original art form, spawned by the counter-culture at the end of the 1960's, and influencing the look of films such as The Fifth Element, and the original TRON.

The new edition of FUTURE-ROCKER should be out next week - fingers crossed! ( Ooops, sorry - the next edition will be published on July the 16th, and features loads of stunning work by artists, musicians and movie directors. If you like my hyper-colour style, you'll love this blog, so hang in there, it'll be worth the wait ).

POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE...

I've been busy lately with these individual pieces of art. All are pen and ink on watercolour postcards, no pre-planning, just a kind of 'Rorschach test' for whatever mood I am in at that moment.

Great fun, and very satisfying ( as well as addictive ) to create a piece of art in one or two days. Here's a selection...

WONDERWALL

Around Birmingham, there is a severe lack of white walls to actually hang art. However, there is no shortage of white walls to paint...if you don't mind getting arrested. Here's a visualisation of what my studio building would look like, if I had a very long ladder - and a good lawyer.

POSTCARDS...preview

Last year I did some postcard art for a friend to auction and raise money for her art college. It was great fun, so I've now bought a stack of blanks and am doing one a day, covering everything from cubism to futurism to vorticism and surrealism to photorealism. None of it is pre-meditated. I may draw a grid to get me started but that's about it. I have no idea what I'm aiming for. I'll post the selection soon...small art is very liberating..!
