CLONED ART

The painting on the left exists in the real world. The painting on the right, is the same piece of work, digitally altered. ( It's the Christmas Holiday, and I'm having a break from the studio! )

CLOSE-UP: PEN & INK ABSTRACTS FROM THE NEW 'URBAN EDITION' OF MONOBLOG

Once in a while, I'll stop talking about trying to produce simple, minimalist work, and actually get on with it. This is what happened after submitting eighteen postcard-sized drawings for Chania Arts Fest earlier this year. As I stated a while back, there's something so satisfying about being able to produce a piece of finished work every couple of days. After a brief visit to New York, I did some pieces inspired by the skyline ( follow the link to MONOBLOG ). Below are some great close-ups of that New York series. I'd love to do some large artworks based on these edits.

SNEAK PREVIEW

Ahead of THE COBALT BLUE show on Tuesday November 26th, here's a sneak preview of the latest work-in-progress. Why am I showing it to you now? Because the light from the low sun at the time this photo was taken, was really beautiful. I think someone's rented this empty studio, because it's locked now, and I can't use it for shoots. :(

WORKS-IN-PROGRESS

Had to tweak this photo to death to minimise the studio's yellowy artificial light. I'll take a better one next time...

RUBBISH / I & II

RUBBISH I

This is the 'oh dear' phase every artist goes through while in the process of doing a painting. Next comes 'Maybe I can Rescue This?' then, 'Jeez, Why Am I Bothering?', until finally, six months later, you arrive at 'This is a Work of Transcendent Genius, Somebody Get Me a Medal'.

Below: Acrylic on Canvas, 142 x 117cm

RUBBISH II

This ( below ) actually is rubbish, and I shall be forwarding the installation below for the consideration of the Turner Prize selection panel, forthwith. Joking aside, artists leaning toward the more 'conceptual' side love this type of studio detritus. Some even make entire careers out of it. When visiting the studio, they have an annoying habit of being mesmerised by the bits of tape, and ignoring the actual art. I had a cat like that.

NEW EDITION OF FUTURE-ROCKER IS OUT!

New 'favicon' ( goes at the top of the screen, on a tab ).

New cover logo, inspired by the graffiti around my studios, and heralding a series on urban life that I'm doing across my blogs.

Rejected 'Wonder Woman' vignette - see the final one by clicking on the link, above.

NO IDEA.

Below is one of my many works-in-progress. And I can guarantee the finished version will look ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THIS. ;)

See you soon!

PROGRESS...

I had to do something radical and counter-intuitive to bring it alive, so I added some black lines, and it's really starting to get somewhere now. Just a few more adjustments to make, then it's finished...

Acrylic on canvas ( picture below, added 5th Sept, 2013 ).

VERSION 27.0...AND COUNTING.

Isolated parts of this acrylic piece are starting to look great. Paintings can have personalities of their own, and they don't make it easy for the artist. It can take weeks of trial and error to wrestle one into shape.

Don't forget, if you want one, email me at alexik-artist@hotmail.co.uk.

SNEAK PREVIEW #1

Postcard series inspired by New York, which I may feature in the forthcoming 'urban' edition of MONOBLOG ( which now has a revised release date of sometime in September 2013 ).

More to come...stay tuned.

SNEAK PREVIEW #2

The Mark I version had a lot of fans, but hopefully they won't be too upset with the final version...whenever that happens. It definitely is not finished.

Here's some close-ups ( below ) of the same pic, as it is currently...

Part of the pink section looks interesting...
